What is a Crop Swap?

A crop swap is a fun and easy way for people to get together and swap excess fruits, veggies or seeds or house plants and cuttings with others in the community. Instead of letting your extra produce go to waste, you can swap it for something different—like trading fern for a pumpkin or fresh herbs.

Crop Swaps are free, and no money is exchanged. Instead, what is exchanged is local produce, plants and plenty of gardening tips. It’s a great way to share what you’ve grown, try new things, and connect with your community!

Crop Swaps help reduce food waste, promote growing and eating local and build community connections.

How does a Crop Swap work?

  1. Grab your goods!
Pick and pack any extra fruit, veggies, herbs, seeds or house plants to swap and share.
  2. Display your items
When you arrive at the event, place your items on the swapping table for everyone to see.
  3. Start Swapping
It’s time to explore! Check out what others have brought and find something to take home.

Play fair and share with others. Goods laid out on the table are generally considered to be excess/surplus and are for the taking. Anyone with specialty or high value items that would like to manage their own trade is to contact the event manager.

Leftovers should be taken home after the event unless participants are happy for them to be donated to a local community group. Strictly no meat/fish/poultry/dairy items.

Respect and be kind to fellow swappers. No money changes hands and there is no measurement of produce. Attendees are encouraged to exchange growing tips and make new connections with like-minded swappers.
