Caroline Magerl was born in a small German town near Frankfurt, and came to Australia as a toddler. Her parents built a yacht in a suburban Sydney backyard, which became home. The family sailed the east coast of Australia until Caroline was a teenager. Often spending weeks in remote places, drawing and writing were important pastimes, and led to a love of illustration and storytelling.

Caroline has won numerous awards, including the Crichton Award for Grandma's Shoes by Libby Hathorn, and a Children's Book Council of Australia Honours Award for Nop. Caroline's picture books are published in Australia, the United Kingdom, America and Canada, and her illustrations are exhibited at Chris Beetles Gallery in London, UK.
