Leaf to Wing - the Maleny Understory
In support of Speak Up Now | 1 May-28 May | Maleny

This exhibition brings the often‑hidden world of local wildlife into focus. Insects and small birds are shown at an enlarged scale, surrounded by the rich colour and movement of their natural habitats.
Inspired by the Maleny landscape, the works highlight the intricate beauty of species that are often overlooked. By changing scale and colour, the familiar becomes engaging, immediate and alive.
In support of SUN Speak Up Now, the exhibition also reflects a broader theme of care and protection. It recognises that people and wildlife both thrive in safe, supportive and nurturing environments.
Artist Kate has a long‑standing interest in the small details of the natural world. Her work invites audiences — especially children — to slow down and look more closely.
This connection to place and community is reflected in projects such as the Maleny Children’s Garden and the Maleny main street mural, where local “small secrets” were collected and shared. Kate’s mural at Rosetta’s Bookshop later inspired a children’s story, encouraging young readers to observe and engage with the living world around them.
