Acknowledging and celebrating First Nations

First Nations

Sunshine Coast Council acknowledges the Sunshine Coast Country, home of the Kabi Kabi peoples and the Jinibara peoples, the Traditional Custodians, whose lands and waters we all now share.

We commit to working in partnership with the Traditional Custodians and the broader First Nations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) community to support self-determination through economic and community development.

Belonging Storytime

Belonging Storytime is a First Nations inspired program, facilitated by branch staff and forms part of our regular Storytime programming. Specially curated kits are used during the sessions to support a deeper understanding and appreciation of First Nations people.

The program highlights core values that are deeply embedded within the rich landscape of children’s literature, represented by authors of diverse cultures and perspectives. Belonging Storytime is not a cultural program; rather it provides an opportunity to share perspectives and strengthen connections through storytelling.

Join us during the Storytime sessions at your local branch.
