How it works
Grab, grow and donate seeds at your local library
Grab
Grab up to four seed packets per month from your local library to take home and grow. Seed packets can be found at all library locations and mobile libraries during open hours. Look for the wooden box in the Adult Non-Fiction Garden & Plants section of the library.
Grow
Take your new seeds home to grow. Use the information on the seed packet as a guide. There are plenty of books and eMagazines available to help you.
Once your seeds have matured and produced seeds it's time to harvest and donate back to the Seed Library.
For more tips on starting your own garden visit Council’s Living Smart website.
Donate
To donate seeds back into the Seed Library, place seeds into any available resource - example: an old envelope, a paper bag, a zip lock bag, or the supplied paper bags, and pop into the donations box. You can donate seeds from unused fruits and vegetables.
Make sure to include as much detail about your seeds as possible, including:
- Common name
- Variety
- Date collected
- Conditions of growth (sunlight, water, when to plant, ideal spacing and harvest time)
Where can I find the seed library boxes in the library?
You will find two Seed Library boxes Adult Non-Fiction Gardens & Plants collections at each library. One to collect seed donations, and one for seeds to grab and take home to grow. Can’t find the Seed Library? Please ask your friendly library staff for assistance.
The boxes were designed and made by local woodcrafters guild, the Blackall Range Woodies.
