Artist statement

I see wearable art as a pure art form. Like contemporary dance its expression is enough, without the need to explain itself, and the results surprise, delight and move people as all great art should. The practice of creating wearable art incorporates design, materials, engineering, creative solutions to construction challenges and the limitations of materials, and the creative openness to be guided by the choice and use of materials, reinventing and repurposing in surprising and unusual ways. I choose to work within the parameters of using materials I already have on hand as much as possible. Materials that might otherwise go to waste, are second-hand or given to me. Reimagining a material’s use in new and unexpected ways is the creative driver behind my wearable artworks. And of course, it has to be beautiful! Wearable art ticks all my creative boxes: it incorporates the body, fashion design, beauty, tailoring techniques, music, dance, and stunning materials that possess an already existing beauty and complexity of their own.
