Birds to Coastal Flowers

Ella Hitchens paints the native wallum | 9 Oct to 25 Nov | Nambour Library

Ella Hitchens draws inspiration from the intricate dance between local birds and botanical flowers. Throughout Ella's time on the Sunshine Coast, the bushland that once provided solace and a nurturing connection has rapidly disappeared under the pressures of development and urban expansion. Her artwork serves as a tribute to these lost wallum areas, advocating for their preservation and emphasizing the importance of reconnecting with and safeguarding our natural environment.

Birds to Coastal Flowers captures the essence of this delicate relationship, offering a visual, poetic impression between native flowers and local birds. Each artwork holds a snapshot in time, fleeting moments of these natural miracles and explosions of colour, before they transform to another arrangement in nature.

“I pay homage to the native wallum, the ancient guardian of our coastline's structure and integrity, which also serves as a profound muse in my work. I endeavour to convey the value and ephemeral grace of our local biodiversity, and invite viewers to see why we must protect these jewels of the Sunshine Coast.” – Ella Hitchens
