Sporting fields that play a vital role in developing our young athletes and keeping older ones healthy and happy will continue to be supported by Sunshine Coast Council.

Fields of dreams: funds flow for sporting clubs

Council’s Sports Field Maintenance Funding Program contributes to the maintenance costs incurred by local sporting organisations and provides expert advice on how to maintain quality turf surfaces.

The program currently helps 48 sporting organisations, with the newly established sporting club, Nirimba Hurricanes Junior Rugby League Club, joining the program this year as the club takes responsibility for new fields early next year.

Stronger Portfolio Councillor Taylor Bunnag said the funding was essential to help our sporting organisations, which are mostly run by volunteers, to have access to information and funding to keep their fields in competitive shape.

“These fields are used by a wide range of people in our community, including our youngest members to adults, playing in high level competitions,” Cr Bunnag said.

“As we help to fund these maintenance works, I’d also like to acknowledge and thank the amazing volunteers who put in hours of work to provide such quality playing facilities.”

Council’s Major Grant round is currently open for community groups to host community events, deliver community projects and programs or upgrade facilities. You can apply online until August 26.
