Artists identifying as Kabi Kabi or Jinibara are invited to express interest in an art commission opportunity with Sunshine Coast Libraries.

Welcoming one million visitors each year, Sunshine Coast Libraries provide places for people to work, study, relax and learn. Libraries are open to everyone and provide free services for the whole family to enjoy including books, Wi-Fi, workshops, study spaces, computers and more.

This opportunity invites local First Nations artists to express interest in designing an artwork that reflects connectedness between libraries, each other and Country. The selected artist will be awarded a paid commission and the final work will feature on a variety of library promotional materials including library cards, banners, signage, web content and more.

This opportunity is open to local First Nations artists who identify as Kabi Kabi or Jinibara.

For more information on the opportunity and the desired outcomes, view the Artist brief.

To express interest in this opportunity, email your current CV, status of practice and 2-3 current indicative images of your work to [email protected] by Friday 28 June 2024. Include information about your indicative artwork’s title, date, medium and size.

Refer to the Expression of Interest checklist for more information.

Selection process

A panel will review submitted expressions of interest and select two artists for shortlist.

Shortlisted artists will be invited to submit two concepts each, based on the details outlined in the artwork brief. Each shortlisted artist will receive $500 for their two concept designs. Each concept design will provide an indication of the colour, palette and composition that would be used in the final commission, should the artist be successful.

Following the concept period, the panel will review the submitted concept designs to select the successful artist. The successful artist will receive $1500 for the final commission.
