Learning to ride a bike or scooter creates an amazing sense of achievement for young ones and our region has a great range of family friendly parks to get them started.

Sunshine Coast educational bike tracks offer a fun way for kids to gain key skills and build confidence on two wheels.

We’ve compiled a list of some of the region’s favourite learn-to-ride parks:

Skippy Park, Landsborough

The ideal park for kids to gain confidence on the purpose-built cycle circuit for both beginners and experienced cyclists positioned around a wonderful playground.

This is a great place for beginners to learn to cycle or ride a scooter on an even bitumen path around a green oval and playground area set against a backdrop of native bush.

Experienced cyclists will also enjoy this circuit for honing their skills and speed on the curves.

Once the kids have had enough of cycling, they can play ball on the oval or head to playground.

As you might well expect, the park was named after kangaroos that regularly visit the area.

Amenities: picnic tables, barbecues, drinking fountain and toilets.

2. Kevin Asmus Park, Buddina

Much loved by young families, Kevin Asmus Park has a delightful learn-to-ride track that is ideal for young bike, trike or scooter enthusiasts.

Promoting imaginative play, the park is interwoven with a large educational bike track, where children can park at the many different play elements including café/shop and play petrol pump. Complete with miniature street signs, roundabouts and painted road lines.

Riding along the paths, children can also stop at the swings, pirate ship and half basketball court.

Kevin Asmus Park is connected to the Kawana Library, the community centre and thriving community garden.

Amenities: picnic tables, drinking fountain and shelter. Toilets are located at the nearby community centre/library area (opening hours vary).

3. Grahame Stewart Park

A family favourite, Grahame Stewart Park has an impressive learn-to-ride track, complete with miniature street signs, crossings, weave poles, painted road lines and a bridge.

The epic education bike and scooter track is suitable for beginners as well as older kids looking to boost their riding confidence.

Grahame Stewart Park has it all! Stay for a picnic and enjoy the two playgrounds, multi-purpose court, flying fox, open grassed area and the Vegie Garden Story Seat.

Amenities: picnic tables, barbecues, shelter, drinking fountain, toilet, separate dog off-leash area (unfenced) and the region’s first Changing Places public amenities block.

4. Little Mountain Common Park

The educational track at Little Mountain Common Park is set amongst the shade of large trees offering a fun and winding adventure.

Perfect for beginners and children looking to boost their abilities, it is complete with miniature street signs, bumps, roundabouts and painted road lines.

Stay a little longer and enjoy the multiple playgrounds with a flying fox, swings, castle and drawbridge, as well as cricket oval, half basketball court, exercise equipment, skate park and a large fenced off-leash dog park.

Amenities: picnic tables, barbecues, drinking fountain, shelters and toilets.

Location: Raintree Boulevard, Little Mountain

everyone should keep left and give way to pedestrians
warn when approaching - cyclists use a bell, skateboarders call out
don't obstruct the path
stop and look before leaving the path crossing the road
