Camp songs and dances

There is nothing quite like sitting around a campfire, singing some your favourite campfire songs. But what songs should you sing? There are so many songs to choose from! Here are some tip-top camping songs for you guys and girls to sing along to.

So gather around the campfire and have some fun!

Alice the Camel

Alice’s camel has five humps
Alice’s camel has five humps
So go Alice go

Bump bump bump bump.

(repeat with four, three, two and one humps)

Alice’s camel has no humps
Alice’s camel has no humps
Alice’s camel has no humps
So Alice’s camel is a horse

B-I-N-G-O

There was a farmer who had a dog
And Bingo was his name-o.
B-I-N-G-O
B-I-N-G-O
B-I-N-G-O
And Bingo was his name-o

Repeat – each time you sing the next verse substitute a letter with a clap.

The forever song

This is the song that never ends,
It goes on and on my friend!
Some people started singing it
Not knowing what it was
And we’ll continue singing it forever just because…

Repeat as many times as you would like.

Silly Camp Songs

Let loose, be silly and sing them loud!

Do your ears hang low?

Do your ears hang low?
Do they wobble to and fro?
Can you tie them in a knot?
Can you tie them in a bow?
Can you throw them over your shoulder
Like a continental soldier?
Do your ears hang low?
YES! My ears hang low
Yes they wobble to and fro
I can tie them in a knot
I can tie them in a bow
I can throw them over my shoulder
Like a continental soldier
Yes my ears hang low!

Boom Chicka Boom

Boom Chicka Boom (repeat)
I said Boom Chicka Boom (repeat)
I said Boom Chicka Rocka Chicka Rocka Chicka Boom (repeat)
Oh Yeah! (repeat)
Uh Huh! (repeat)
I said Boom Chicka Rocka Chicka Rocka Chicka Boom (repeat)

Songs in a round

Another type of camp song is one sung in a round. Everyone sings the same melody and lyrics but starts at different times. Have one group sing the first verse before the next group starts the song. Rounds are fun, give these a try!

Kookaburra

Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree
Merry merry king of the bush is he
Laugh, kookaburra, laugh, kookaburra
Gay your life must be

Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree
Eating all the gumdrops he can see
Stop, kookaburra, stop, kookaburra
Leave some there for me

Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree
Counting all the monkeys he can see
Stop, kookaburra, stop, kookaburra
That's not a monkey, that's me!

Make new friends

Make new friends, but keep the old.
One is silver, the other is gold.

A circle is round, it has no end.
That's how long, I will be your friend.

A fire burns bright, it warms the heart.
We've been friends, from the very start.

You have one hand, I have the other.
Put them together, we have each other.

Silver is precious, gold is too.
I am precious, and so are you.

You help me and I'll help you
and together we will see it through.

The sky is blue. The Earth is green
I can help to keep it clean

Across the land, Across the sea
Friends forever we will always be

AB-Twinkle-Have You Any Wool?

Sing to the tune of The Alphabet Song, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, and Baa Baa Black Sheep.

Players sit in a circle. The first player starts singing any one of the three songs. When the player stops, the next player must continue the same tune with different lyrics.

So, if the first player sings “ABCDEFG” the next player continues “sir, yes sir, three bags” and the next “star. Up above the sky so…” etc.

Camp songs with motions

Any camp song can be an action song – just add some arm motions!

Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes

Head, shoulders, knees and toes,
Knees and toes.

Head, shoulders, knees and toes,
Knees and toes.

And eyes, and ears, and mouth,
And nose.

Head, shoulders, knees and toes,
Knees and toes.

The Hokey Pokey

You put your right hand in,
You put your right hand out,
You put your right hand in,
And you shake it all about,

You do the hokey pokey
and you turn yourself around
That what it's all about.

Repeat with left hand, right foot, left foot, head, backside and whole self.

Cuddly Koalas

Sing to the tune of Frere Jacques

Cuddly Koalas, Cuddly Koalas
(Hug yourself and move your torso left and right)

Possums, too, Possums, too
(Make a circle on both hands with your thumb and index finger and put them up to your eyes)

Wallabies and Wombats, Wallabies and Wombats.
(Roll your hands over each other)

Kangaroos, Kangaroos
(Mime jumping with your hands in front of you like a kangaroo)

Dance Break!

Not a fan of singing? Then get crazy, get loose and shake your caboose.  These extremely silly song breaks are guaranteed to make you move!
