Pottery play | Get started with clay craft

With plastic in the sin bin, anything pottered is king. Pottery trends like head planters, Mexican talavera style and succulent plant pottery containers have seen their popularity surge.

If you were a kid presented with a block of clay at the start of a weekend, we feel you. Hours of pummelling damp clay into no-name shapes, keeping little hands busy. Then down to the local potter’s kiln to have the lumps professionally fired and glazed. Such good times.

And what about the famous potter’s wheel scene starring Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore in the movie Ghost? That scene went on to become the most beloved (and parodied) of all time with pottery class bookings breaking records at the time.
