Australian Reading Hour | Stories that matter

Australia Reads... More Books, More Often

In September, we are inviting Australians of all ages and from all walks-of-life to share and celebrate the joys of reading. Tuesday 14 September is Australian Reading Hour. You are invited to stop what you are doing for an hour, pick up a book and read to yourself, others or the children in your life.

Originally launched by Australian Libraries in 2012, Australian Reading Hour began as an event for all Aussies to set aside one hour on one day to read whatever they want, wherever they are and however they choose to read.

Australian Reading Hour celebrates the stories that matter and explores the role of storytelling in transforming lives and shaping our sense of identity, belonging, and understanding – as individuals and as a nation.
