Online Resources

A database is a collection of full text articles from newspapers or journals. Using a database gives you up to date information and lets you find a wealth of information from a huge range of sources. Another added bonus...all the information is peer reviewed - the information/research has been written by professionals in that field.
 
A database search may not seem as fast as a Google search BUT the benefits of finding correct information and the right way to reference the article can save you heaps of time.
 
You do need a current Sunshine Coast library membership card for some databases

EverythingLink exits to another website – The WWW Virtual Library has great links to any subject you are after and the best part, it has good Australian content

Geography and travel – National Geographic covers nearly everything while the CIA world factbook has every bit of information you ever need about a country

Health and medicine – Great sites for all medical and health issues.

Indigenous – Dreamtime stories, culture, radio, television and the latest news

Khan academyLink exits to another website - Learn almost everything for free. Maths, Science, computer science - it's all here with easy to follow youtube clips.

Law – Qld legislation, Family law and the Australian Legal Institute

Library catalogue – Find books, dvd’s, cd’s, journals, even images that Sunshine Coast Libraries stock

Local history – Find picture, old newspaper articles and facts and figures about how the Coast used to be.

MathsLink exits to another website  – This site doesn't search the net for answers but uses a vast collection of built-in data, algorithms, and methods. The knowledge base covers a wide range of areas from maths to music.

NewspapersLink exits to another website - ANZ reference centre, Newsbank and FindArticles will help you source the latest newspaper articles on any subject you need.
On the go – Got a phone with data usage and have some spare time? Check out some of these free apps that’ll help you get your homework done before you get home.

Log in with your library membership number, find the app link at the bottom of the page and follow the instructions. Then you can email articles straight to your inbox.
  • ShakespeareLink exits to another website – Everything every written by the man himself and handy key word searching so you can understand what it all means.

  • WikipediaLink exits to another website – Great for fast facts but if you are using it to source information for an assignment scroll down and use the Reference links. This will make sure you’ve got good quality references from a bunch of different places.
